3 of us fished for 2 days (10/15 & 10/16) from 7am until 6:30 pm each day.  Weather was sunny on 10/15, overcast on 10/16; winds were calm to mild each day.
Bass were scattered, with seemingly no pattern.  Caught a few in the thick grass with flukes, worms, and lizards, caught a few off the bottom in the clear areas with football jigs, none on spinners or buzz baits.  Only 14 fish on day 1, only 12 fish on day 2.  Several 2’s & 3’s, one 4-11, and one 6-8.  Harvested 2 small bass.  Disappointing results for 3 very experienced bass fisherman.
Note: several of the deep cycle batteries pooped out by mid-day on both days.  Had to go back to barn to get other batteries to finish the day.  Some of the batteries are getting worn out.

It sounds like you tried the tackle box and some great bait choices. Sorry you did not catch them this trip. Always disappointing when San Saba does not meet the expectations.

Sorry you had to return to the barn for a fresh battery. On medium to high wind days, one 12V battery will not last for an entire day. Making the boats a 24V system creates another set of issues/hassles. So, bringing two batteries per boat from the barn works best. Some wonder why we have so many batteries in the barn. We have groups of 6, needing 3 boats with two batteries a day with a couple of backups.

Paul,

The landowner saw your post and called to review with me. Thanks for keeping us informed.

I had this similar experience with the fishing there a couple years ago in October. I was not catching them on any of the baits you mentioned with any consistancy. Every once in a while I would hear a bass blow up on bait out in the middle fo the lake. Straight out from the boat launch. I stopped fishing to just watch the open water, I noticed something. Bass were in fact chasing schools of shad around the open lake areas. So I had everyone change to crank baits. We then worked our way around the lake, all while keeping a sharp eye for anything on the surface to move, either bait or bass. We started catching fish suspended in about 3 to 6 ft of water. I didn’t get us on this patteren until noon. We had caught only 12 bass from dawn till noon, after the change we caught 48. from noon to 5 pm.Most all in the 2- 3 lb range with maybe 5 4 pounders and one over 6. All were stuffed full of shad. Bass fishing….Go figure.
