I was in East Texas with some buddies and thought we would give Winnsboro – Little Cypress Farm a quick visit since it hasn’t been fished much this year. We got there about 7:30 and packed up at 9:30, in those 2 hours we caught 13 and missed few which is good action but it was the quality of the fish that is the headline and what we expected from the survey last year. These fish are absolute fatties, they DO NOT skip a meal! Biggest was a blimp, short and super fat, 6.2lbs, two others over 5 and a couple over 4…excellent quality.
Wind was strong so we didn’t use the nice pontoon boat that is there (bring chairs to sit on) and just fished from the bank. The owner has added a nice rock ramp between the dam and the pier with the boat, and there is a picnic table underneath the tree now by the dock. Grass is tightly mowed around the lake so bank fishing is very easy now. Will update the property page with all this info.
Water is turbid but very fertile as evidenced by the relative weight of the fish. We caught them on chatterbait, senko (purple) and yellow magic. Most hits were tight to the weed line. East bank produced more bites but the two biggest came off the west bank.
Hopefully the secret is out now, we should be getting more trips to this awesome fishery!
