Well, the wind had died down and the lake looked awesome when we arrived.  Little did we know that a 4.8# on our first cast would be the biggest fish until a 3.21# about 5 hours later.  Not a lot of number either.  11 total fish between the two of us.  Found some fish deep deep in the pad fields after lunch but nothing in the channel or deeper water all day.  Like Beaver the day before, I think they all had spawning on their minds and were deep in the pad fields.  My buddy did hook three up in the creek that flows in to the lake after clearing a laydown in his Hobie kayak.  I was disappointed when the trolling battery ran out of juice at 2:15pm and we had to cut our day short.  Boat was nice though – plenty of room and two seats.

Franklin,

How extensive and thick were the pad fields?  Did they appear to have been thinned out during the winter?

Pretty extensive buddy!  Covered probably 40+% of the lake area and fairly thick. We did hook a few in the larger holes in the pads but it was hard to see beds to sight fish.  We did catch the best fish of the day (4-8) just off the pads lining the left shore as you leave the launch area.  Got no bites in open water.
