Got on the water at around 9 AM and fished all the way until 6 PM. Soon as we loaded the boat my son picked up a Spinnerbait and I picked up a weightless rig and we started fishing. My son caught a 4.3 LB LMB on his first cast. We were both pumped up to catch such a solid fish right out of the gate. A few casts later he catches our first cull of the day. Meanwhile I have not got a bite as of yet and watch my son catch 2 more in the next 10 casts. After watching him catch 4 LMB’s in about 20 casts I decided that the Spinnerbait was gonna be the choice for the day. We fished all the bank line of the entire pond and caught over 60 LMB’s by 1:30.
We beached the boat and made a quick trip to a convenient store to get some snacks and drinks and take a little break. We got back on the water at 3:00 and decided to make one more lap around the pond and just key on the areas where we caught them earlier. We caught another 40+ LMB’s on the second lap. We doubled up over 15 different times. The biggest LMB we caught was 4.9. We never broke the 5 LB mark. All in all our best 5 went right at 22 LBS with nothing bigger than 4.9. We caught 22 fish that were at or just over the 4 LB mark.
I believe this lake has great potential to grow trophy LMB’s, but I think it definetley is right at the point of being over crowded. We didn’t go longer than 5 minutes without catching one and we never caught one over 5 LBS. Most of all the fish looked ok health wise, but believe they looked this way because they were all full of eggs. If people continue to cull properly and the owner continues to put more forage in the lake there will be 8 LBER+’s in this lake in no time. Thanks to the owner for sharing this awesome property, and hopefully over time we will see some bigger LMB’s come out of this pond.

More than 100+ with your son is an outstanding day, congrats! Deer Trail is a great lake, we reopened it a few years ago after the dam broke and we completely reset the lake. The structure, genetics and forage are all conducive to growing giant bass and we should be catching double digits there now; however, otters had a different plan and wiped out the initial class of giant bass (they are very efficient at eating big bass). As long as we can keep otters out and continue to harvest the bass will continue to grow, they are super healthy and there is a lot of forage for them.
