10/12/2012. My son and I didn’t get on the lake until about 3:30. We are both inexperienced bass fisherman. I tried worms, lizards, spinners, diving baits and swim bait with no luck, but remember I didn’t know what I was doing. My son stayed with one black worm with a pink tail. He got a couple of strikes in a specific spot in the middle of the lake near the south end. When he switched to a pink worm he snagged a bass but lost him. I immediately switched to a pink worm and caught a 3lb bass. No luck afterwards as the wind blew us around the lake. After we put the boat up we tried from the bank around the old dock stumps and caught 2 more bass (1lb & 2lb) using pink worms. We left happy as that was the most fish we have ever caught in fresh water….even when we used guides.

Ron,
I have fished this lake a number of times with the last time being a few days before you were there.  I had read about the brush piles and had spoken with Steve about their locations.  My plan was to cast 1/8 ounce Stanley Jigs but I kept getting hung up so I abandoned that plan with the intention of switching to a heavier rod and concentrate on bass.  My son was casting swimbaits for bass and I maneuvered the boat to the middle of the lake so I could get my bass rod ready to go.  I was trailing the jig behind the boat and started catching nice sized crappies.  I never went to the bass rod and had a blast trolling with the jig.  I even caught two bass with the jig.  It was steady action for the entire time we were there.  The color of the jig did not seem to matter.  You may want to try this on your next trip as I discovered this effective tactic only by accident.
