Ron Dupree and I made our first trip after the big SE Texas snowstorm to Post Oak Lake without high expectations but we just had to get out of the house and just fish.  The day started very slowly with Ron catching a couple of small bass on dropshot up against the dam. Water temp was 42.4 degrees at 8AM and never reached above 43.1 degrees. A first tour of the lake resulted in lots of fishing but absolutely no action. Although we had only seen a couple of possible bottom-hugging blips on the graph, we gambled that there must be some bass sitting right on the bottom in the deepest part of the lake.  It took a while, but we started catching some bass mixed with the occasional crappie from 14-17 FOW fishing the bottom with very slow-moving Ned rigs and shakey craws. Although we eventually caught a few shallow bass from the bridge area, deep water and small plastics on the bottom was the winning combination.  A Ned-rigged SK Menace was the star producer. We never got a single strike on a moving bait.  We landed 4 bass in the 19-19.5” range (~4#’s), 10 more released bass, 8 harvested bass, and 5 harvested crappie.  All of the bass were torpedo-shaped (see photo of 19.5” bass) with none showing any signs of pre-spawn fattening.

The lake is about 12-18” low and dropping, water is surprisingly clear with 3-4 ft visibility, and there is essentially no vegetation.
