Originally wanted to fish Sunday as the weather looked perfect, but couldn’t make it happen.  Had the day off Monday and decided even with pre-cold front weather and predicted heavy winds, I’d still give it a whirl.

Let’s just say the weatherman wasn’t wrong. Arrived at 7:45 with air temps at 55, water temp at 53 and wind already 10-15mph.  By 10:30am the wind was 20-25 and I about left, but saw it would die down to 15-20 around 11am.

As for fishing, it was not surprisingly slow as the water which normally has 1-3 feet visibility was less than 6 inches (pair that with the wind and it was a grind).  Threw just about everything in the tackle box and the only things I could get takers was on a 4.25 inch Rapala crush city swimbait on a 3/8 oz jig head and a drop shot with a 6th sense juggle minnow.

The surprise of the day came around 11am when this fat catfish smoked my drop shot. Was a blast to battle on my medium action spinning rod with 10lb test.

At the end of the day, the fishing was as expected. But, I got to enjoy one last fishing day in 2024 in what has been my most successful fishing year yet.

I got to chat with my buddy Eric on the way out which is always great.  For those members that haven’t fished Salt Lick, Long Lake or Blue Rock which are all Eric’s, you’re missing out.  Eric puts so much time, energy and resources into making his lakes produce consistent and healthy fish.

Big thanks to the PWF crew for all that they do!
