Took my 3rd grade daughter, a guest, and his daughter to Six O yesterday PM.  Cards were stacked against us: full moon, northeast wind at 15, stained water (brown as I have ever seen it at this property), and on tail end of several inches of rain.  Threw rattletraps, shad-imitation crankbaits, oversized swim bait, buzzbaits, senk-os, chatterbaits.  One bass on blue/chrome rattletrap.  Did not get around to drop-shotting a zoom trick worm in deeper water near dam, maybe that would have done it.  Another party of two fished that morning and got blanked according to the log in the shed.  Now for the good/fun news.  Large bluegill saved the day.  We caught lots of large copper-nosed bluegill off the dock, which the girls loved (and the dads appreciated after getting drubbed in the bass category).  Also caught one large crappie off the dock.  When the wind died down a bit we used the new pontoon boat, which is roomy, had a bench in the back and two nice swivel fishing chairs.  It did not get blown around as bad as I would have expected.  And the sun finally came out in the early evening.  I have always caught good numbers (of dinks) in this lake; don’t know if I have lost my touch, or if conditions were that challenging.  PS: watch out for speed trap in Keene if your heading down Highway 67.

Yup that speed trap has got me before! Right where it drops to 50MPH!  They will pull you over for 8mph over!

Wow, I don’t think six-o has ever been non productive.  It is always a 15 to 50 type lake.  Of course maybe the heavy rains caused the off color and that shutdown the bite.  Is the lake full?  When did they get a pontoon boat and does a 40 lb thrust move it ok.

Geez the flats across the lake from the dock was always good for a half dozen fish.  I guess I’m goingc to wait until the lake settles down and clear a bit before going out there.

That is one of my favorite places to fish as it always had a strong bite.  Plus that big fiberglass boat was nice too.  Lots of room, so I didn’t have to worry about my partner putting a crankbait in my head.

Now that’s a challenge to go out there and locate those buggers, that’s what makes fishing fun.

Bill,

Thanks for your post. It is posts like this that really help us understand what might be happening at a lake. We will keep an eye out for other posts from members that have similar results at this lake.

I am sorry the fishing was very slow, I am not pleased about that; but grateful you let us know, it really helps!
