I fished Long Lake on 12/23 from about 8:15am to 4:40pm under an overcast sky with breezy winds up to 15mph.  Mild temps from about 50 in the morning to low 60’s in the afternoon.  Water was a beautiful green stain with almost 3’ visibility and was 54 degrees.  I wanted to spend some quality time trying an A-rig, so was looking for bait balls or schools of bass to target for most of the morning with my electronics.  I found some big bait balls but was challenged to target them efficiently with the wind constantly blowing me around.  After a couple of hours of nothing, I finally got hammered by a nice fat 5lber.  It would be my one and only bite on the A-rig all day.  About 4 hours later I connected with a fat 2lber on a Strike King 5XD in a shad pattern, and my last bite of the day was another fatty (3lbs) on a  drop shot with a 6” Roboworm in MM3 color.  There was nothing caught around the perimeter or in the South end of the lake.  Other techniques tried without success: Texas rig, football jig, shallow flatside crankbait, lipless crank, spinnerbait, 6” swimbait, jerkbait, jig & minnow strolling, free rig.
