On Saturday Dec. 14th we booked Acker Lake for full day of fishing. Having never been to this lake, pulling up right away I was amazed at the size and beauty of the lake. We fished 830am-430pm, boated 14 overs but had to really work damn hard to catch them. First fish in the boat off a spinner bait just to the left of the boat ramp within 3 minutes, I told my son this is going to be a good day! The jinx was in, only 3 total fish come 130pm. Once 2pm rolled around, son swapped over to a Berkley shad swim bait and started nailing them in an area in the trees that had a large clearing, about 30 yards by 50 yards. I tied on a white deep diving crankbait and started having some luck as well.
We fished the trees, the shoreline along the creek channel where its deeper, everywhere but way back off to the north where it gets shallower….. threw lipless crankbaits for over an hour, caught one. Threw swimbaits, jerkbaits, tx rigged worm, spinnerbait, crankbait. The biggest was about 2.5lbs. While it was a tough outing, it was an amazing time and we look forward to coming back and giving it another go. I believe if we had fished Sunday, the bite may have been better seeing as how it was even warmer…..who knows.
Plan on finally installing the Garmin Stryker 4 on the pelican Ive had sitting on a shelf for 18 months.
Tight Lines, and Merry Christmas everyone!

Winter can be tricky and one day could make a huge difference. That lake is special, I am sure they will be more cooperative for you next time but glad your son had some luck. Awesome pic of him, that fish looks much bigger than 2.5, you have trained him well in the art of holding a picture fish. Merry Christmas!
