Member Carl Sparks and I to to fish Double A yesterday.  The lake hadn’t been booked in awhile so I wanted to see how it was doing...great call!  We got on the water just after 10 and fished until almost 5 with a quick lunch break and not so quick battery swap (I am not a fast paddler) mixed in.  Started working the weedline on a drift and picked up a couple; then switched to targeting the ridge and southern “coves” with crank baits and that is when it turned on.

We caught 30+ on the day which is a very good numbers day, but the quality of the fish was exceptional...only 3 culls, the rest were super fat and healthy...and strong!  We had a couple that might have been right on that 16 inch cull line but they were absolute studs with bellies like mine so they went back in 😀.  At least 80% of the fish we caught were more than 3lbs with several 4s and 5s and at Double A those fish fight much bigger so tons of fun.  Carl caught the big one of the day (6+) right as Joe pulled up to check in, great timing...we also got to visit with Mike Nicoloff at the same time who was having some good luck at Little A.

Biggest surprise of the day was about 2pm when birds started working and we got some good surface action...in mid-December!  Most of the activity was in the cove next to the boat launch, they had shad pinned against the weed line there and were gorging, we caught them working the crank baits like jerk baits.  When the surfacing stopped we switched to swimbaits bouncing on the bottom and picked up several more nice fish that way.  What a great day, if you haven’t been to Double A, you need to check it out, outstanding fishery.  We didn’t have electronics so you don’t need them to have a good day but if we had them we probably would have been more efficient and stacked up even more numbers.

What an awesome day and thats one stud of a bass!  It was perfect timing and was pretty cool watching Carl crank it in.  Gotta love winter time fishing, my favorite time of the year.

Carl (the coangler) commenting.  Wanted to add we had perfect weather for a mid Dec day.  The day prior was warm and our fishing day was also warm.  Winds were light and variable.  Low barometric pressure and low clouds all day.  Some rain.  And a forecast for rain the next day.  All this certainly helped us out.
