This was my first trip to Travis lake, great property. The lake was easy to access from the entry road, and the ground was surprisingly firm right next to the lake. It took me a while to determine the best place to launch the boat, I chose the left side of the dock in case it left ruts it would be off ot the side. Really, it did fine, the ground was firm and it wasn’t a problem at all (although if rainy I would be more concerned with traction).
It was a sunny day, cold, and water temp was around 52. I saw very little in the way of cover of any kind, so I ended up using exposed hooks for most lures to increase hookups/reduce soft plastic consumption. I fished only about 4 hours total (half day), 7:30 to 11:30 am.
I cast a bit as I headed across to the opposite side of the launch fishing a swimbait at the banks. No bites. I worked my way towards the deeper area/dam and decided to try deep since it’s so cold. First deep cast, caught a great 4 lbs, pulled up from the deep, pale with the cold (I assume, other fish caught in Nov/Dec have been similarly pale). What a great start. Then I fished that area good, took another 15 minutes but caught two 3 lbs back to back in the same general area. Unfortunately, having caught such nice fish so quickly there, I was stuck on that spot a long time fishing slow on the bottom, it ate up my fishing time. I then sped around the lake and caught few smaller fish, then ended up back in that area and caught one just over cull, and the rest small fish. Will return with a better plan!

East of the tree by the dock halfway between dock n dam the ledge evens out. That is a good place to back a trailer. Hard bottom the lake has. The lake is also a turbid ecosystem, fish will be a little lighter in color. Visibility a foot or less is normal there. There are good fish and culling is starting to make a difference. Someone noted a brushpile there, not sure where it is though.
