This was my first trip to Pecan Gap. The owner greeted me at this great property. The concrete launch made it easy to get in the water, and the lake is beautiful, lots of tall trees surrounding the lake, and in the lake. I fished dawn until around 11:30am (half day). Lots of trees on one side of the lake in the water, but there is submerged timber really all around the lake (middle area too, deeper) so be advised to fish more weedless/cover lures to avoid hang ups. There was no serious vegetation, just a little on the bottom. The area with the trees sticking out of the water was shallow, I neither saw nor caught any fish there. I finally picked up one fish along the far bank (around 2 lbs), and then changed it up to a deep diving crank and just cast in near the deeper water near the buoy marker in the center of the lake. I hooked a nice one down deep, around 4lbs+, made it all worthwhile. I fished the circuit again with differen lures/colors, still no bites. While leaving I cast near the dock and got another 1-2 lbs bass to see me off. All were released immediately.
The owner mentioned otters had been on the property (but believes they got them all) I didn’t see any, but be on the lookout and consider reporting if you see them.
