Happy to have a new lake near Austin! This was a really neat property with horses, chickens, cows, a couple of Great Pyrenees (Waylon and Patsy) , and BASS! The Lilly pads / grass mats cover most of the lake and extend for 10-200 yds all the way around so bank fishing would be impossible. Dropped the bass raider in at the tank dam with no problem and went to work. The entire lake bottom is vegetation, and the edges of the mats extended so far out from shore they were already in deeper water. So, I targeted the’Matts/grass lines with the chatterbait, lipless crank, and swim jig and caught fish at will. Caught around 50 total up to 5.2lbs. (Caught three 5’s and Several 4’s) These fish are healthy, hungry, and angry. They fought like demons and almost every one would jump out of the water, run straight at you, or dive right under the boat. 2 pounders pulling drag like they were 6’s. What a great time. With a little management (culling the smaller fish, clearing the lilllies, and introducing forage), this lake is going to be the deal within a year. I would imagine after this winter kills off the heavier surface mats, the Lillies will be cleared by spring, add some bluegill or shad and we will have one heck of a honey hole near Austin. I spoke to the land owner and her daughter I assume, and they were fantastic people. I look forward to going back and am excited to see how it progresses over the next 6-12 months!
