Arrived a little later than hoped to but still had boat on water by 8:00 am with thin layer of clouds and a decent breeze.  Lake is in great shape with clarity up to 3-4 feet and water temp ranging from mid 80’s in morning to 90 in shallows after sun came through clouds.  Moss matts have covered the surface in the usual places but difinelty not a problem on a lake of this size.

I had decided even before arriving to start around the big hump and moss bed directly out from the boat ramp with my favorite topwater.  Had four in the boat in fisrt 30 minutes from 12” to 17”.  Wind picked up and made holding my little Pelican boat in place long enough to fish top water with more time using trolling motor than casting.

Decided to try the long cove and continued to pick up scattered fish on popr and underspin along the moss and pad line.  The top water bite played but they continued to hit the undersping retrieved just above the submerged moss.  After the fifth or sixth fish getting off at the boat started throwing a flat sided square bill in crawdad color and it produced as many as the underspin.

Clouds went away by 11 so took a lunch and shade break about noon. Went back out before one and continued with same scattered pattern and only able to get a good hook set on underspin on maybe 1 of every 5 bites. Could be time for some hook sharpening.

Finished the day around 2:30 since temp started approaching 100 with a total in the boat of 19 up to 22” and probably 10-15 that shook off the underspin at the boat. Overall another great outing on a great lake with dreams of what it might have been like if the cloud cover had lasted longer.
