We started out Sunday with VERY high hopes for a slugfest! The weather was AMAZING! Temps started in the 70s with some beautiful cloud cover and some breezing wind, we could not have asked for a more perfect weather day this far into summer.  We got on the water at the crack of dawn and started working all the normal spots where we do well at this lake and it was just not happening.  We started covering water looking for the bite and fished the entire circumference of the lake twice in every part of the water column from dirt shallow to 12-14’ near the house and concrete retaining wall.  We just could NOT find the bite.  All morning long shad were popping, fish were chasing and blowing up on them almost as if they were mocking us lol. To quote the man Gerald Swindel “ We threw Chatterbaits, Smatterbaits, Dinnerbaits, Spinnerbaits, Texas rigged toast. Jalapeno Popper Topwaters, and even Crawfish biscuits and they just would not come to the table and eat”.  We did manage 6 bites, only one of which we got in the boat. All of the bites were extremely soft and the least aggressive we have ever experienced at this little piece of paradise.  After a few hours of grinding, my wife resorted to a book/nap on the back deck while I broke out the Livescope and continued to embarrass myself until we left at noon.  I don't know if the recent fishing pressure has got these fish shy, or if the drastic temp swing shut the bite down, but this was not the usual slay day we have at this lake with many, many 3# fish.  We will be back to hit this lake again in a month or so, and I surely hope it is back to its old form as it was my absolute favorite club lake until it handed me this butt-kicking lol.  Water clarity was pretty normal tea color / slightly muddy for this property, and water temp was around 84 in most of the lake. The water level was down about a foot from previous visits and a large portion of the Lilly Pads are clearing up around the circumference of the lake and in the coves at the back of the lake.
