7:30 am till about 11:30 am. High blue skies, a welcome breeze and water about 1 1/2 feet low. Clearer than when I last visited. I like to start shallow and work deep, so spinners and shallow running cranks to begin. Nothing. Plastic—nothing. Went to an old reliable, chrome rattle trap, at the mouth of the channel from the back of the lake as it empties into the main body of water. Caught 36 fish, all on that single bait. 35 were at or below 13 inches and removed. The one fish relesed was  chunky, full 20 inch long beauty, from the same pattern. Only one large fish out of all those caught. Strange? Unique? Or just fishing?

Canton Kickapoo is a lake that is a classic over populated stunted bass fishing lake. The same could have been said about Cleburne and Sulphur Bluff Deer Trial. Simply to many mouths to feed and not enough food. In the cases of these two lakes we have removed mouths and added to the food chain. In the case of Canton Kickapoo we are removing mouths. John, you have been huge in helping us remove fish at this lake. We still need to remove another 150 fish this year and approx 200 each and every year from this lake. Glad to see you caught a 4 lb fish. There are probably only a handful of larger fish and probably a few 8 or even 10 fish in the lake, but literally probably less than a dozen bigger fish. Through proper harvest, we can change the dynamic of the lake. Thanks for your efforts!!

I really like Kickapoo. Easy to get to, nice shape and size, very little noise and you’ll catch fish. I’ll admit bigger fish are often more fun.I hope the harvesting leads to a population of larger and healther fish. This coming from a catch and release guy at heart. 150 more this year? Wow, I better get started.
