got the boat in the water about 7:15am. Water visibility was about a foot. Wind was already at 10mph with gusts at 15-20 and it just got stronger as the morning went on. Tough controlling the boat and the anchor wasn’t holidng but we found a few trees to tie off on. After 5hrs a being blown around and with the sun bearing down we were ready to head out early. caught 9 total (2 bass / 7 crappie). nice lake though. can’t wait to fish this one on a calmer day.

Aaron,

I like to fish Triple J as well and have learned a few things about it. It is always a bit windy given the landscape, usually 10-12 mph steady with gusts. Because of this, I have begun to use two 10 lb mushrooms, each with 4 foot of chain and then 20 feet of rope as anchors.

I deploy both off the stern gunwales, usually about 15-20 feet apart,  then drift downwind. This almost always holds and lets me fish 360 degrees from the boat ( I use the club boat), and with minor adjustments of the deployed rope, get in a pretty good position.  The bottom is muck and so be ready when you weigh the anchors to “rinse” them a bit before you move to the next spot.

Also, the trees make a good point of attachment in the northern flats.
