Fished Toby Lake for the first time. Was not disappointed. Day started out very windy making some of the lake difficult to fish. Nevertheless, we caught a number of fish in the 3 lb to 4 lb range. Around 1:00 p.m. the wind began to lay and started changing direction from the South to the North. With the lighter winds, we began catching more fish and bigger fish as well. A few 5 lb’ers and one over 6 was caught during the afternoon hours along with several smaller fish in the 2 to 3 lb range.
Most productive lure was a jig and pig and an underspin with a biffle bug. Biggest fish was caught on a square bill crank bait. Plastic worms fished weedless also worked well, fishing over the top of the grass beds.
Overall, we caught around 45 total bass and 1 crappie. All the fish were extremely heathly looking. Throughout the day we lost about 10 other fish when we did not get a good hook set.
Water is very clear. Great lake to fish with some large bass in great numbers.
Cant wait to come back, We were definitley not disappointed.
