Sorry I have to start this report / testimony from the beginning or you will be lost. Please bear with me, and I think I will make you a proud member of PWF or at least I would hope you can relate to what I'm reporting.
I took my brother fishing at Timber Lake on Tuesday June 19th and he went back to work bragging and boasting to his Co- worker / fishing buddy about his trip to Timber lake so my brother's worker just had to check this lake out for himself because he was sure that Bass fishing that good, could only be found in his great state of Arkansas. He wanted to see if the fishing was really that good in Texas. That being said, and if I ever had the pleasure of meeting you, then you'd know it was already a battle forming before we hit the water.
I fished Timber Lake with my brother's Co-worker Reggie and his 8 year old son RJ and his 10 year old nephew Austin. We started at first light fishing top water at the dam and picked up a few. Once we made it into the timber the fishing went from slow to fast in a matter of seconds. I had the pleasure of sharing my boat with Austin. Austin made 6 casts and caught 6 fish. 4 went 3 lbs. or better! I almost put him in the boat with his uncle because I had only caught one fish at that time. Talk about fishing under pressure! I felt like I was in a pressure cooker. I mean, I would feel the boat move and then I would hear a soft voice say "got another one". I quickly started gaining ground on Austin by putting 4 in the boat, using a white Rage Tail Shad. Oh yeah, I caught my fish while Austin was hung in the timber and then I decided to maneuver the boat so he could get unhung. I mean really, I could not move the boat because I was catching fish ( I guess I could have not made another cast but I was sight fishing at the time and I saw fish, not to mention I was behind on the fish count and he was from Arkansas!!!) Lol.
Okay back to the fishing report, this was one of those days where you just had to be there to understand. I guess a perfect fishing day. Austin and I continued to catch fish alternating between a white spinner bait, white trick worm, white rage tail shad (okay you get the picture that white was the color of choice today). I have never seen a kid so disappointed and happy at the same time while catching 2 ½ to 4 lb. bass. He would say things like "keeper", "ahhh, to big, he gotta go back" and this was said before he even landed the fish. When we got closer or within sight of his uncle Austin told me to get in a good spot so we, or should I say he, could catch a big fish in front of his uncle and younger cousin RJ. We ended up fishing the edge of the Timber line and we both caught fish in front of them but they were catching fish to.
We fished Deer Trail and I must say that the harvesting has really done this lake well. I caught 3 fish that went over 3 lb. and the boys started again with their white spinner baits. At the end of the day we had caught over 100 fish between 4 people, majority of the fish was caught on Timber lake and we harvested over 40lbs of fish from Timber lake and 10 lb. from Deer Trail.
At the end of the day Reggie told me that both RJ and Austin had lost interest in fishing but todays fishing trip changed all that. He has never seen to young boys talk about a fishing trip the way they did after fishing one of PWF lakes. They could not even eat lunch because they did not want to stop fishing. We had to make them drink water because it was a hot day but the youngsters and the fish did not mind the heat. I was told by Austin that he could not wait to tell his Dad about this fishing place and how hard the fish fight and that quickly changed to, "my dad is going to hate he missed this" to, "I have so much to tell my dad" this went on and on all day from an excited 10 year and 8 year old kid with the excitement that will last for days on end. Almost forgot about the uncle, he went home with a lot of fish and the story of the big one that got away and 2 young boys who know the excitement of fishing again, all thanks to PWF
In conclusion, PWF may have some new members from Arkansas soon and at least 3 people from Arkansas will return with fish stories that are growing every second in 2 young boys minds and one uncle about how these fish bite, fight and leave your heart pounding for more, after a day of catching fish on one of PWF lakes. Oh yeah my brother did not make it due to work and all I could tell him is that he should have been there because words cannot describe a day of fishing we enjoyed on PWF lakes.
