Weather forecast was a little sketchy but we took a chance. Access was easy. launching was a little tight but not bad. Just use the middle of the launch area – don’t get off to one side or the other. Arrived after the rains late morning with overcast skies and intermittent sprinkles all day. Air temp 57° – water temp 63°. Water clarity less than a foot due to rains. Perfect for topwater fishing, my favorite. While tying on my lure my buddy Hal caught a 4.5 at the boat ramp with a chatterbait on the very first cast of the day! Wow! He had three in the boat before I caught my first.
We trolled north along the east bank fishing the vegetation near the bank. As another member reported, the bass were there and eager in 5-7’ water all around the lake. Vegetation was not heavy and very fishable. Lots of dollar pads (water shield) were quite nice which I had never seen before (see photo). My go to lure for topwater is the Z-Man Pop FrogZ, made with super strong and stretchy ElaZteck plastic. The hook is a Mustad UltraPoint KVD Grip-Pin Wide Gap hook (see photos). I caught over 15 bass on the same lure all day and it still looks new. Floats at rest and weedless. What’s not to love? I tried chatterbaits, stickbaits, senkos and others with not much luck. The ZMan frog did the trick.
There are numerous laydowns, overhanging trees and inlets around the lake providing targets for catching bass. At the south end of the lake is a large shallow flat that is home to a large family of beavers. Their huge beaver den is impressive and holds some bass.
The bass here were notably strong and aggressive – “four pound bass with a 10 pound attitude”! 3-4 pound fish were pulling drag! Caught only one under 2 pounds – all others up to almost 5. Some larger bass appeared to have some eggs but none were big yet. Caught one male with a bloody tail from clearing a nest. Due to dingy water we couldn’t see any beds.
We fished deeper lures out away from the shore some and trolled the deeper areas but no luck. No problem – we had a blast with constant action in the shallow areas. We both had “monster” blowups near the boat on our frog lures – took our breath away!
The launch are was very clean and recently mowed – perfect for our shore lunch. And the lake area is so peaceful – no highways, county roads, chainsaws, target practice, airports – nothing to disturb your “reel solitude.” As others have said, it’s well worth the drive. Beautiful property, easy access and eager bass. Check it out for yourself.

Thanks, Larry, for the detailed report. I was hoping to fish there last week while visiting my parents, but it was blocked off that particular day. It is only a few minutes away from their house, so I'm sure I'll try it soon enough.
Is that the launch area in the photo of the bank? I'm cautious about it with the reports so far. I'm not sure it will work for my boat, but I'm curious on your opinion if you think it would work for a 19’ boat.
Great report and photos!
