If you are like me, when you look at a report the first thing you notice is the total number. Yes, 54 bass were landed. However, there is more to the story than numbers.
I have been a part of this club for almost 4 years now. I have had many memorable trips as part of it. The trip yesterday, though, at Cordo will likely be my favorite for a long time.
I had the privilege of taking a friend and 5 boys (age range of 5 to 10 years old). So, there were 7 “anglers.” Those bass didn't have a chance.
As you can imagine, not all fished the whole time. There was a lot of time spent tying new lures, unhanging baits and fixing backlashes. The boys often took the time to just explore nature. They found crawfish, turtle shells and even played football in the open field.
As for fishing, though, it was the purpose of the day, and everyone caught at least 1 bass. We kept a tally sheet for accuracy on harvesting counts and to create a little competition. The total was 54 bass with 31 harvested. Most were in the 14-16" range. We got to educate the boys on harvesting and lake management.
The wind did, at times, play a factor, but we worked around it. All types of lures caught fish, but I think spinnerbaits and wacky worms were the biggest contributors for the boys. The adults did some experimenting with success on several techniques.
Greg is putting a lot of effort into making this a top club property. I know it will be a regular destination for me and my son.
