I took a guest last Thursday, June 14, to the lake south of Glen Rose. He had never caught a largemouth bass as they are absent from the state of Washington where he is from.
I had hoped for a great day as the last three times I fished there, I caught between 10 and 20 bass by myself.
As it turned out, I was disappointed in the fact that we caught only 8 bass. They ranged from 15” to 19”, so their size was certainly acceptable. I think the weather got to us: bluebird skies, 15 to 20 mph winds, etc.
Yet, while I was disappointed, I recall hiring bass guides on Grapevine and Ray Roberts and only catching one bass. So, I guess, by putting things in proper perspective, 8 bass isn’t so bad after all.
One other somewhat related note: I accidentally hooked myself on top of my right forefinger. Unfortunately, the barb penetrated the skin. I tried to jiggle it out, but to no avail. And, I knew I could push the hook out, cut off the barb and then get the remaining hook to come out —- but painfully. Luckily, earlier that day, I received an email about using doubled up mono. to get a hook out. My guest became my personal doctor and successfully yanked out the hook with almost no pain on my part. That technique works. Learn about it if you don’t already know how to do it. Stuff happens!
