Was able to squeeze a last minute trip in 2023, and luckily was gifted with lighter winds (6-8mph) on Saturday with max gusts no more than 11mph.  Started at daybreak and 28 degree temps, and water temp was 50.5 degrees. I had a hard time finding actively feeding schools but still ended up with 15 for the day, a few 4 pounders and 4 culls. All 11 returned were solid size fish and were caught anywhere between 15 to 25 feet.  The most active feeding window was around 10 to 11:30 and I did find a couple smaller schools near the ledge but kept losing them after I caught one.  Some of the bass were wearing bright red lip stick, and some bass had deep coloration with a lot of black while others had the winter / cold water look to them.  Despite the cold temps I did see shad bust the surface a couple times.  Joe swung by around 2 and was good to catch up and hear about his plans to fatten the bass up before the spring spawn.
