Fished the afternoon at Long and caught 25 total, 13 culls and two big ones….... one of which weighed 6lbs 9oz and the other 6lbs.

Got on the water around 12:30 and fished to 5:45. Not my first time at Long Lake but first time with sonar, and peddled the kayak around for awhile checking depths and looking for structure. Perfect kayak lake and at 13 acres I didn't feel rushed in making sure to hit all the fishy looking spots.  Middle is a solid 21 ft sloping up to 13-15 ft pretty close to shore.  The west and the east ends flattened out and were 8-10 ft.

I started at the east end and fished the timber with soft plastics, and 4” inch Senko was my go to. Long Lake is usually really clear but with the recent rain the water clarity was perfect with 3 ft of viz, and has the greenish hue just like Salt Lick. From 1 to 4 the fish were caught really close to the shore and hanging in or around structure. Senko and Drop Shot along the edges of the timber were the ticket.   The 6 pounder was caught on a finesse tungsten jig next to a submerged hay bail.   Bass were busting shad all day but really picked up around 5pm. Despite all the busting, I had zero success with swim baits, under spins and spinner.  After breaking a big one off on a drop shot I switched to lipless in deeper water and caught the 6.9 pounder sitting next to classic quarry lake structure. That's a blast on 10lbs test and medium action rod.  I followed bait all day and found a couple good size shad balls. You can see in the pictures that the fish have fat bellies.

Wow, really nice fish, congrats Mike!  Appreciate the detailed report and great to see the rains and landowner efforts have made that water more fertile…should make it easier for the shad population to continue there.  The bass certainly appreciate having the shad there!
