My son and I visited Grain Bin for the first time and really enjoyed the brief time fishing – i say brief because a big storm rolled through (tons of hail up here in DFW!) so we had to get out before it was too much to handle. That said, the fish were hammering swim jigs in the main “boot” area for the 1.5 hours leading up to the storm.

The fish we returned were all north of 3.5 pounds and so fat and feisty! It was wild that even when you lipped them they still thrashed around. Such a fun little visit. The fish we culled were fat but under the limit so we still removed them. We lost 2 right a the boat because they were thrashing and tossed the bait. They were likely culls but obviously not totally sure.

We didn’t get a single bite or really even see much activity in the long section of the lake. All bites and catches were in the “main” area slowly swimming jigs back towards us. I decided to throw a bigger swimbait just to see what would happen and had a couple giant water dragon followers along with what looked like a 5-6 pounder(?) hammer the bait right at the water surface. Very exciting and encouraging that there are some tanks kiding within all the grass. Sometimes even seeing those really dark shadows slowly lurking around is enough excitement to itch the scratch ...even if you don’t catch them!

One thing I noted was the gate was unlocked and wide open when we arrived so I left it that way when we left – we didn’t see anyone around but left it open, just in case someone was maybe working somewhere on the property?

Thanks again to PWF and the land owners for letting us enjoy these unique properties! We definitely plan on returning when the cooler temps hit – I know the bigger bass will be out hunting!
