Got out on the water at Jordan Lake around 2 pm. The weather was calm and warm. I took my 10 yr old daughter fishing and she had a blast. She caught her PB on a swimbait. It surprised the heck out of her because she didn’t know what she had on the other end of her line. Just imagine using a zebco rod & reel with 6# mono. I adjusted her drag before she started fishing. We used the property’s pontoon boat. She started out catching a couple of crappie and then a small bass. We fished around the backside of the island and made it around the outside point. She casted right out in front of the island point and bam it slammed her swimbait. Her drag went screaming and the fish stayed down. It made itself under the boat and slammed the bottom with loud thuds. It got lodged under the boat for it seemed eternity. She said I don’t know what to do. I told her to keep the rod up, keep reeling to keep pressure on the fish, stay calm and don’t horse it. At this point, I know she’s not making any headway with the loose drag but it prevented her from having slack on the line. Finally, the fish swam out from underneath the side of the boat and we got a glimpse of a huge white belly yet not knowing what it was. It bolted to the front of the boat in one direction. I was wondering if it was a giant buffalo fish or carp. The fish came back around and started running out of steam. It wasn’t a bass but a 12# bluecat. I’m glad it didn’t snap her line. She knows it wasn’t a PB bass but she’s all smiles for her PB bluecat. With the hot weather for the few months, don’t forget to put sunscreen on. My daughter forgot to put sunscreen on even though she was wearing a cap and staying hydrated. She felt bad, red as a beet, and had a headache for a couple of hours. We came up around 5 and she sat in the truck’s AC for a little bit. I gave her tylenol and she felt better. All in all, we had a blast. We ended with 25 bass, 6 culls, 2 crappie, and 1 big bluecat. Thank you owner and PWF!

I hope you brought it home and cut it into fillets! Blue cat is some of the best fish you can eat! A 12 lb. fish is almost enough to feed 2-3 people.Congrats to your daughter…and on 6 lb.test!

Charles,

Her exact words were “Don’t put the fish back, dad. I want to eat the catfish!” haha

John,

You’re welcome! I was excited and yet helpless for her. She’s been having a horrible time missing or not catching fish. She’s been down on herself and not been wanting to go fishing. But she asked for today. Today was her time! lol
