Possible Jon boat modification. Advice/Insight needed

Hey everyone I just started school up again so as usual I'm just procrastinating by researching stuff other than academic studies. I have been doing some research about adding a casting deck to the front of my 12ft jon boat and I have found a whole bunch of stuff including youtube videos and various articles and forums. I currently have a pelican intruder 12 that has a weight capacity of 420 lbs. If I plan on constructing one I will most likely make it a removable casting deck if it becomes to unstable. Does anyone have any past experiences with this and should I even try it.

Tight Lines,

just sell it and get you a Sun Dolphin PRO 120... haha. actually the pro 120 is the way to go (half the weight of what you have now).. im a little concerned about you getting to high of a center of gravity, and it being tipsy,, if you do decide to try , dont put much into it till a trial run

Thank you for the input sir. I just thought about giving it a thought and to see what others might have to say about it as well. Thanks again!

Hey Daniel,

I think a lot of it depends upon the type of weight distribution you have throughout the boat.  I also have a 12 foot in a buster style boat and mine has a raised platform up front.  Nice for the person in the front of the boat and not so nice for whoever is in the rear.  My boat has two battery compartments on the far left and right sides of the boat which adds considerable stability.  I also use a large rudder hanging off of the back.  My livewell is in the center of the boat at the rear of the front flipping deck and adds more weight and thus, more stability as well.  I haven't had any issues yet and I can tell you that if my boat didn't have a raised deck up front I would surely add one.  I like to be as high as possible for better visibility and lure placement.  I think you should consider adding the deck if your boat has considerable weight out on the sides.

Sorry for the late reply Jackson, sounds like you have a pretty decent rig. Thanks for the advice. If  I do make it will definitely be a removable deck so that if I run itno some issues I can just remove it and wait for a boat upgrade.
