Located in Pattonville, TX (just East of Paris) is one of the most unique properties we have ever seen, Shady Grove Ranch. There are six square 10-acre lakes on the ranch that were built to grow catfish in the early 2000s. Unfortunately, a drought dried up all the lakes, and the catfish farming operation came to a halt...but fortunately, when the lakes refilled they were blessed with bass and bluegill instead of catfish! Our survey found healthy numbers and a wide variety of sizes of healthy bass and a good forage base. The lakes are close to each other so in the winter and spring bank fishing is an easy way to cover a lot of water; however, late spring and summer will bring vegetation growth and we expect much of the bank and surface area to be covered so kayak or stand up paddleboard will be your best bet to fish the lakes. Of the 6 lakes, only the front few are fishable and these ponds will likely be at least 50% covered in vegetation including cattails and lily pads by late Spring or early Summer. The lakes have some really solid fish, but we want to explain that the aquatic vegetation is mucho!

There is not an improved road. However, the "path" to the lake is elevated. We would not recommend accessing this property after heavy rains.

There is no improved boat launch at any of the lakes. So, only small boats without an outboard motor, kayaks, or similar are recommended.

There is no boat for members to use. There are too many smaller lakes to provide boats.

The lakes are certainly unusual compared to other properties but what really made this ranch truly unique was the collection of old equipment. As you drive to the entrance for the lakes you will notice an old WWII Corsair plane. That's not all, there is another vintage plane and the fuselage of a jet along with a small submarine and multiple tanks and jet engines. These are all visible from the nicely appointed cabin that is on the ranch and available for member lodging.

Take all trash with you. Clean boat of all trash including your used soft plastics.
