Lago Escondido – Your 28-Acre Escape Just 35 Miles West of San Antonio
Nestled within a sprawling 2,700-acre ranch, Lago Escondido is a fisherman’s paradise equipped with everything bass love—deep creek channels, shallow flats, timber, and plenty of aquatic vegetation. Top it off with a huge pier, a large pavilion, and on-site restrooms, and you have the perfect setting for a memorable day on the water.
Fishing & Boat Rental
- Premier Bass Habitat: Enjoy high-action bass fishing, with plenty of structure and cover.
- Boat Options: Two boats with trolling motors and batteries are available to rent for $75 per boat (half-day or full-day).
- Pro Tip: Remember to unplug the charger before hitting the water, and plug it back in upon returning.
- Launch Your Own Boat: Bring your personal boat and launch on the opposite side of the dam via the emergency spillway. The ground is solid rock, and even larger boats have been launched here with ease.
Important Boat & Equipment Notes
- No On-Site Manager: Boats may sometimes collect water or have a down motor if a previous visitor didn’t report an issue.
- Check Trolling Motor Switch: Often, it’s just a matter of toggling the switch from “off” to “on.”
- Switch Batteries: If one battery dies, use the red dial to switch to “ALL” and power both batteries at once.
- Bring a Backup: For peace of mind, bring a spare trolling motor and battery. If a motor fails or you’re unfamiliar with foot-control operation, you won’t lose valuable fishing time.
- Bailing Water: After rain, be prepared to bail out the boat yourself. A small bucket works best.
Mandatory Harvest
-
Remove All Bass 16" & Under: Please record the total number of fish you remove in the online reservation system. This helps maintain a healthy fish population.
Why Lago Escondido?
- Convenient Location: Just 35 miles west of downtown San Antonio—a quick, scenic drive for a full day of fishing or a leisurely half-day escape.
- Beautiful Amenities: Spacious pavilion, restrooms, and a large pier make your trip comfortable and family-friendly.
- Well-Managed Fishery: Continued harvest of undersized bass ensures a thriving population for bigger, healthier fish.

Requirements
- Gate Access: If the gate does not open, remove the bolt in the arm to pass through. Replace the bolt after you have entered or exited.
- Trolling Motor Position: Always stow the trolling motor when finished. Leaving it in the water causes damage.
- Boat Conditions: The ranch does not have a full-time manager. Boats may occasionally have water in the bottom.
- Trolling Motor Issues:
- A trolling motor could be down if not reported by the previous member.
- Bring a backup trolling motor or fish from the bank to avoid losing valuable fishing time.
- We cannot refund fishing fees if a trolling motor is not working or if it was simply switched off.
- Trolling Motor Tips:
- If unfamiliar with bow-mounted hand or foot-control motors, call the club office for advice.
- Always check the toggle switch on the foot pedal to confirm it is on.
- Bringing a backup transom-mounted trolling motor and battery is highly recommended.
- Bailing Water:
- After rain, boats may contain water.
- No staff is provided to bail water for the $75 boat rental fee.
- Bring a bucket or similar device to remove water if needed.
- Mandatory Bass Removal:
- Remove all bass 16" and under.
- Report the total number of each species removed through the online reservation system.
