Grain Bin Lake – A Premier Fishing Destination Near Dallas

Located just 20 miles south of downtown Dallas, this 13-acre rock quarry lake offers a unique fishing experience, especially for anglers looking to target bass and enjoy a full day of fishing. The lake is shaped like the letter "L", with nearly 1 mile of shoreline, providing plenty of space to explore and fish.

Lake Features:

  • Size & Depth: With an L-shaped layout, this lake offers plenty of deep water, ideal for bass fishing. The lake has depths that vary and significant underwater structures that provide great habitat for fish.

  • Electrofishing Results: Recent surveys have shown exceptional fish populations, including a large number of 3-4 lb bass and several over 6 lbs. Over the past two years, two bass over 10 lbs have been caught.
  • Fish Management: The lake has been under management, including fertilization and the addition of forage fish, which has helped improve the growth and health of the bass population. The relative weights of the fish are well above average, contributing to healthier, bigger bass.

Fishing Opportunities:

  • Bass Fishing: This lake is well-known for its large bass population, making it ideal for anglers looking to catch trophy-sized bass.
  • Shoreline: With nearly 1 mile of shoreline, there are ample spots to fish from the bank if you prefer not to use a boat.

Boating & Launching:

  • Boat Launch: Small boats, including 16-foot boats, can be launched from the ramp area. The launch area is accessible, though caution should be taken after wet weather, as the ground can become muddy quickly. It is advised to check the conditions before proceeding down the road to the lake.

  • Barge/Pontoon Boat: The property provides a large 8' x 16' barge/pontoon boat without seats. This boat has a flat deck and a place to mount a trolling motor. The boat is heavy and cannot be easily stolen, making it a secure option for anglers.
    • Boat Access: The gate code provided in your reservation is used to unlock the boat. Be sure to lock the boat back after use.
    • Trolling Motor: It is highly recommended to bring at least a 50 lb trolling motor with two batteries, as the barge is quite heavy.

Property Access:

  • Road Access: The lake is located 200 yards from the county road. The ground around the property can become muddy in wet weather, so it's a good idea to test the ground before driving down the path to the lake, especially after rain.

This lake offers excellent fishing opportunities, with ample space to cast from the bank and a diverse bass population. Whether you prefer to fish from a boat or the shore, you're likely to encounter solid action throughout the day.
