Azalea Ranch - Hidden Oasis in east Texas
Location:
Located halfway between Ben Wheeler and Edom, Texas, Azalea Ranch captures the essence of small-town Texas charm. The ranch is known for its beautiful, well-maintained lodging and serene setting, making it a perfect getaway for both fishing and relaxation.
Lake Features:
- Size: 21 acres
- Depth: Maximum depth of 23 feet
- Fishing: The lake is teeming with small bass, with around 95% of the bass being 15” and smaller. This lake is ideal for anglers who enjoy steady action and don’t mind smaller fish. Catching 30+ bass in a single outing is a common occurrence.
- Harvest: The lake is in need of harvest, making it an excellent spot for anglers who want to help manage a healthy fishery while enjoying a productive day on the water. The largest bass recorded in the lake is 8.8 lbs from May of 2024.
Boating & Fishing Access:

Boat Ramp: There is a great rock ramp for launching full-size bass boats, making access to the lake easy for boaters.
- Club Boat: A brand new (2024) 12-foot Tracker Jon Boat is available for members to use, located near the covered boat dock. Please ensure that you return the boat to the bank near the dock after use; do not leave it near the gravel ramp.
- No Pontoon Boat Usage: Members are NOT permitted to use the pontoon boat at the lake.
Lodging:
- Azalea Ranch features two charming cabins that provide comfortable accommodations for members who want to stay overnight.
- Please note that if you are only fishing or staying in one of the cabins, there may be other guests in the second cabin. Although they are not permitted to fish while members are present, you may encounter other people during your visit, so please take this into account when booking if privacy is a concern.
Fishing Conditions:
- The lake is currently dominated by small bass (15" and under), so if you’re seeking consistent action over size, this is a great spot for you. The abundance of smaller bass provides lots of opportunities for anglers to enjoy a productive day of fishing.

- Ben Wheeler: A great small town with The Forge, perfect for a coffee in the morning, a cold beer, a burger, or enjoying live music on weekends.
- Edom: Known for The Log Cabin, a fantastic spot for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
Notes:
- No Catfish or Crappie: Survey results have not yielded any catfish or crappie in the lake, so bass fishing will be the focus.
- Road Access: The ranch has all-weather roads leading to both cabins and the lake, ensuring smooth travel regardless of weather conditions.
Azalea Ranch is the perfect spot for those seeking an active fishing experience with plenty of bass and the opportunity to enjoy a charming, tranquil retreat.
Requirements
- Remove all bass 14" and under at this site - PLEASE DO NOT DISPOSE OF HARVEST FISH ON PROPERTY, PLEASE TAKE THEM WITH YOU. Report the total number of each species removed, back to the club office through the online reservation system after your outing.
- Do not use the owners Pontoon boat.

Non stop windy conditions both Thursday and Friday. Was unable to get the jon boat out due to the wind and rough water. Only caught 4 very small bass from the bank which =was also very windy. Love this place…
