Fellow member Mark Daugherty and I fished from sun up to sun down at Double A and it turned out to be a grind of a day interspersed with a few brief periods of action.  The weather was beautiful for early fall.  Low 80’s, partly cloudy throughout the day, a steady breeze from the North (it got gusty for a few hours).  There was still a very healthy ring of green grass around most of the perimeter on the shallow shelf.  We tried swim jigs, flukes, and Texas rigged worms through the grassy areas around the whole perimeter without much luck.  Fishing hard from 7:30am to almost 1pm when we took a lunch break, I had 1 small fish landed and lost one decent one next to the boat.  Mark landed around 3 in the morning.  After eating and starting to rig up some different baits, we saw surface blow ups right in the area of the boat ramp as bass started chasing shad, so we grabbed a rod and waded out a few feet to try to cast into the wind around the activity.  Mark hooked up w/ a really nice fish (probably 4-5 lbs easy), but it got off right as he reached down to lip it.  I caught one just over 2lbs, and Mark continued to pick off a few while I was dealing with a backlash as they continued to chase bait.  That flurry eventually died down, and we launched out and started fising the SE corner to the right of the boat ramp.  Mark struck gold w/ a chatterbait and caught several quality fish within a 15 minute span.  My efforts w/ nearly the same bait yielded nothing except helping my buddy net his 4+ pounders.  We fished hard the rest of the afternoon trying to capitalize on fishing chasing bait without much success.  My highlight of the day came late afternoon when I caught my 3rd and final fish (a 4.5 lb beauty) on a swim jig on the edge of the grass.  Mark caught his biggest fish at the end of the day in the NE corner on a hard jerkbait.  The fish had the head of a 6-7lber, but was skinny and only weighed 5.5lbs and did not put up any fight at all.  It turned out to be really unhealthy as it took Mark several minutes trying to get the fish to even attempt to swim off.  It just wanted to lay on its side.  I don’t know if it will make it, but we did everything we could to get it to at least try.  Like most others mention, Joe came by for a brief chat before lunch.  He’s such a nice guy and wants you to have a good time.  Our final tally was Mark 16, Me 3, and our best 5 fish weighed 22lbs.  Not the day I was hoping for, but knowing the reputation of this lake, I’ll be back and expectations will again be high.

David, we’ve all been on the wrong side of a day like that…I’m sure you will turn the tables on Mark the next time you go out!
