Fished this lake Aug 5th with partner Bill Lee.  We encountered very stained water and lake appeared to be about 3 feet low.  Not a surprise right now with our drought.  I decided to fly fish only, while my partner fished with conventional worm rigs, spinner baits, and some topwater thrown in.  Could not produce a bite all morning.  Wind was dead calm upon arrival then picked up significantly.  I fished Wooly Buggers to start with and produced nothing.  Switched to a chartruese and white Clouser and immediately hooked into a 3 lb catfish.  Only the second time in my life I’ve caught a cat on a  fly.  Put up a great fight on 5 x tippet and took a while to boat.  The only other fish produced with the stained chocolate water was a nice Bluegill and a Threadfin Shad.  Not a single bass was interested.  We gave up early, about 10:30.  I’m sure there are plenty of bass here but with the conditions we just couldn’t produce.  Some days are like that.
