This was my second time fishing this beautiful property in the last 60 days – as you would expect, it was a totally different experience in early July vs early May.
On May 1st, we wore ‘em out on the east lake but struggled to catch 5 there today. The water is extremely cloudy (<1’ visibility), down several feet and the lake is full of a black slimy moss – every retrieve we were picking this junk off our baits. We got a few on various soft plastics but it wasn’t happening – we packed up our yaks and made the switch to the west lake by 930AM.
This was a great call – the weeds have grown in a bit on the west lake and the water is lower than early May but it’s clear and the bass were much more cooperative. The 3.8” keitech on an underspin (green pumpkin, black and shad) pulled through the weeds helped us boat a dozen fish between 1-3lb from 10-130pm. However, the most productive technique was a wacky rigged senko dragged over the top of the weeds and dropped into the various holes/channels/pockets. We hooked up with several larger fish throughout the late afternoon on the technique and called it a day by 5pm.
