Fished Shady Grove with fellow member Erik Johnson from 7:30 to 3:30 on 4/24/22. There is no improved road to the ponds, but the path in the pasture is elevated and easy to follow. Got started on lake #3 and Erik landed the first fish before we even got the boats in the water. The action was pretting steady all morning. We landed several in the 3-4 lb range with a couple creeping up to the 4 ½ to 5 pound range (didn’t weigh any fish). This is a very unique fishing experience with the amount of vegetation in the water. Fishing in and around the cattails is really cool. Make sure you are prepaired for the amount of cover. These fish hit hard and take you down into the thick stuff. Erik and I were both equiped with braid so the fights were pretty epic. Throwing a fluke on a belly weighted hook proved to have the best results. Got several short strikes on a buzz bait but couldn’t land anything. The water in pond 3 was crystal clear and I marked depths of 5 feet out in the middle of the pond. The way these ponds are set up, the fish are scatted all over the ponds. Due to the wind, we primarly stayed within the cattails which provided a little wind break. The fishing in pond 3 was so good we didn’t want to leave, but after lunch I decided to put my boat in lake 1. I was not dissapointed. This is a totally different fishing experience. Water is crystal clear with depths to 4 ½ feet. Lilly pads or old lilly stems cover the entire lake. We started throwing the fluke in this pond and landed a 3 ½ to 4 lber right off the bat. We started getting a lot of taps from the large bluegill population so we switched to a bluegill colored chatterbait. Just like pond 3, the fish are all over the lake. We spent the rest of the afternoon slaying 3 ½ -4 lbs bass. By 3:30 we were both pretty beat from the wind and our hands were tore up from the bass. What a great trip. Not sure how fast the foliage will close these ponds out, but right now the fishing is a blast!
