Two good friends joined me Sunday for a spectacular day of fishing at Hickory Creek Ranch. We enjoyed an easy drive from Magnolia arriving at 7:30am. We were greeted by 25 deer near the entrance and even a larger herd a minute further in. Weather was chamber of commerce perfect with a slight breeze until late morning, turning moderate after lunch. Water temp was 63 degrees upon arrival, never thought to look again. Water is about 3’ low as previously reported. Property was meticulously manicured and maintained as always.
Lures Used: Weightless TR 5” Yum Dinger helped land majority of bass, KVD square bill cranks caught fair amount of both crappie & bass, crappie jig under slip bobber accounted for most crappie.
Fished from 7:45 until 2:45. Landed 80 fish total. Caught 2 bass and 2 crappie from pier upon arrival; but vast majority of fish were caught from boat. Caught 55 crappie (45 nice slabs; other 10 were 9 -10”) and 25 bass. Largest 2 bass were just shy of 4lbs, also landed several in the 3 1/2lb class, many more in the 2 1/2lb range. Returned a total of 15 oversized bass to lake; harvested 10 culls under 14”. Harvested all 55 crappie.
At 1:00pm a huge bald eagle swooped down and snatched a Bass out of the water about 50’ in front of the boat, quite a spectacular site.
By 2:45 it was time for us to wrap up, loaded boat and headed home.
One of the most productive and enjoyable days fishing I’ve had!
