We arrived at Tara around 1:00 and were pleasantly suprised by the high water level, very stained, draining into the spillway. We hit the right side of the dam first, throwing toward the right brush pile with chatterbaits along the way – nothing. We worked the whole dam and then around the left bank and into the cut out – nothing. There were a few hitting the top towards the north, shallow side so we headed that way. Bam! In only about 2-3 feet of water Trav connected with a beefy 3½ pounder on a hot craw chatterbait with a green vile craw trailer around the mouth of the back creek. We then hit a few others in that area from 2 ½ to 5 lbs, all in about 2-3 feet of water, running hot-craw jackhammer chatterbaits along the bottom in the freshly flooded area. We later re-visited the right brush pile up by the dam. Boom! Trav connected with over an 8lb Hawg on a chrome rattletrap with a black back! Then, a 4 ½ pounder hit a Texas rigged red shad ring worm. At the end of the day we boated about 14 ranging from 2 to 8lbs with a few crappie thrown in the mix as well. Throw in the excellent wheather, about 75 degrees with 5-10 mile an hour winds, and it was a great afternoon. If you can find even a half-day to get out, now is a good time. Fish are in pre-spawn and looking to bulk up and a lot of fish at Tara are pretty bulky already!

We were shocked fish were in 0 -2 feet of water… but there they were! Love Tara, looking for that ONE bite!
