Starring down the barrel of an impending freeze and what looks to be relatively cold temps for the next few weeks, I worked all day Sunday so I could fish today.  I was happy with the numbers and even got a couple of decent fish in there.

  1. Fished from 10am-3:15pm, no break for lunch, but a did take a few work calls.
  2. I didn’t have electronics (leaving the garmin at home by accident), but the water was around 50, 18 inch clarity with a chalky color to it.  No veg to speak of. Air pressure was 29.78 and wind was out of the south at 12-15mph or so. Cloudy for the most part with intermittent sun.
  3. Lake seemed relatively shallow throughout but not super shallow.
  4. I had a relatively slow start – caught 4 and 2 crappie on an ito megabass jerkbait with a long 12-15sec pause near the point on the east bank.  That point juts out into the water for a bit and seemed like there were fish scattered to the north of it.
  5.  I somehow snapped two of the hooks on my jerkbait, one on one fish, and the other on another.  I was pretty bare with what I brought and I couldn’t get them to hit the other color patterns I had.
  6. I went back into the shallow areas with the islands with a spinner bait but no luck.
  7. Went down the west bank near the dock and hit a decent one on a Texas rig/green magic stickbait, so I started to go with that.
  8. Worked down to the North end and found a small brush pile and started getting some regular bites.
  9. Then I worked the area adjacent to and 20 feet off the drain and started catching a bunch on successive casts.  I think I got up to 9 in a row at one point and I’m pretty sure I caught some of the same fish again.  Worked with a darker stickbait, junebug craw, and then a darker rattle trap and ended up with 80% of my fish out of that same spot + 1 more crappie.
  10. I went around the lake again, back to the island and got 2 more, then back to the brushpile.
  11. I stuck my best fish on a TRIG tilapia/darker green stickbait at 3lbs 10ozs off the brush pile.
  12. Went back to the drain but no luck around 2:55pm.
  13. Worked to the point where I caught my jerkbait fish and caught 3 more, 1 decent one dragging a poorman’s crig with the same stickbait.
  14. I have no idea what if anything is in the middle (brushpiles, rocks, etc) as I didn’t have my garmin.
  15. I noticed about 10 of the bass had reddish/orange eyes, distinct from the others – definitely not a ‘redeye’ bass but was noticeable. Not sure if it means anything.
  16. Lake could use some modest harvest with a number of the fish coming in under a pound.  Would also be a good candidate for tilapia to clear up some of the mild filamentous algae.
  17. Property is easy to get to off 75 and extremely well kept.  Also has a concrete boat ramp. Great addition to the club!

Thank you to the landowner for allowing me to fish for the day!
