Reservation Number : 30394
Property Name : Salt Lick Lake
Reservation Date : 11/24/2021 All Day -
Total Fish/Sizes : 15 LMB and 4 monster crappie
Lures Used : Variety of TRIG, Ned, Jig, Spinner, A-Rig, hard jerk bait, lipless

Fished Salt Lick on Wednesday with fellow member Charles McCallum and ended up with 15 LMB and 4 of the largest crappie I have ever seen. We hit the water sometime after 9, slight overcast, 3 to 4 ft of visibility, 12mph winds and water temp approx 60 degrees.  Still a pretty healthy weed line around the lake extending out approximately 5 ft from shore.  Morning was still pretty cool and no visible action on the surface. Did a quick tour of the lake and spotted most fish holding close to the bottom and bait balls scattered throughout the lake.  We worked the shore for a short time but no action and stuck to the deeper water where we saw fish.

The bass were really healthy and if I recall the largest was 3.7. Aside from a couple dinks the rest were super chunky in the 2lbs range and all had great color.   No luck on the lipless or crank bait in deeper water and caught bass on a variety of lures. Anything bumping the bottom seemed to work and we used a variety of soft plastics on a TRIG, Ned rig and verticle jigging.  Also caught a couple of active bass on a suspended jerk bait and A-Rig.

The fun part of the day was watching Charles pull up 4 trophy crappie, one of which was 2lb 13oz and a new PB.  The crappie are absolutely huge and interesting to hear from the owner that they got into the lake when Cedar Creek flooded, thus prematurely filling up the quarry.

Truly another great trip and glad we were able to connect and talk to the owner.  Awesome property and can't wait to try Long and Blue Lake.

Nice work gents, the mix of LM/spotted bass and crappie is fun.  That lake is a blast. Happy turkey day!

Definitely a cool lake and a fun day on the water.

I will add there's a small leak in the boat that had us bailing water at half time.
