My son and I were on the water at sunrise. I was shocked to see the mine field of stumps and places that had only a foot of water. As with many of the small lakes and ponds in Texas, the drought has taken it’s toll on Timber Lake as well. The water was down a good 4 feet. We managed to find a pattern fishing thick grass mats around the edges with white or green hollow body frogs and watermelon green chatterbaits in the timber. We caught around 20, most under 2 lbs. we had a couple just under 3 lbs. Between the 15-20 m.p.h. winds and the low water, it was a challenging day to say the least. Still, a great time was had by all. I love this place, we need to get a ton of rain this fall to fill up these small lakes and ponds. I will be back!
