Arrived to a place close to the lake at 5:45am but was not able to locate the lake until 7:15am There is a BIG Yellow sign the says “Simon Cementary , Private Road , No Trespassing “ I was thinking the no trespassing meant exactly that so I keep looking for the Y just past the cementary. Finally saw a young man walking his dog and asked him if knew of the lake. He said yes and got his four wheeler and guided me to the lake. You turn into the road that says No Trespassing !!! From there on it was simple to locate the lake. I had put in the GPS coordinates but because this road was not a public road my GPS unit did not take me down there.Well, when we got to the lake around 7:15 , an hour and a half after being almost there, two men that had been camping were pulling thier kayak out of the lake. I am thinking, darn this is not good. We visited a bit and before I mentioned that this lake is being leased they mentioned that they were making a viedo for PWF and were headed to the other lake on this lease. It turns out that they were NOT able to find this lake either and the same person that helped me also guided them to the lake.
As for the fishing I was getting a late start and would be fishing used water. The easy fish would already have been caught. Well I started catching fish immediately and continued to do so all morning. Caught 42 bass of which 22 were removed. The largest was 4 ½ lbs with about five others in the 3 to 3 ½ lb range.I worked along the dam and the shore line around the lake. The visibility was 30” and the vegetation was not a problem. Much of what I fished was shallow so I used weightless yum dingers,tx rig worms with a 1/32 oz wt, and wacky worms. Watermelon seed, watermelon red and marti gras were the only colors I used. Both 4” and 5”. Many places accounted for multiple bass,as many as five while holding in one spot.Towards the end I tried a drop shot and ned rig both of which worked.
The men that were there had a wonderful tent camping spot along the tree line above the lake which provided welcomed shade.I hope to try camping there this fall.
