Son and I fished Five Finger Springs for the first time on Sunday, 12-3:30. Weather was overcast, 55 deg, 10 mph wind and light drizzle. Perfect weather for shivering on the lake.
This is a fascinating lake if you like fishing rock structure. It has hundreds of massive boulders to pick apart. We landed 6 fish, 14-16”, all fat and healthy, and lost a couple more. We culled three and released three.
We caught all six on light weighted flukes and senkos by letting them fall into the rock crevices. All fish were caught in the main part of the lake, shallow in the boulders, with no bites in the far reaches/coves/ creeks. No bites came on fast moving baits, such as chatter, cranks, nor topwater. Slow retrieve was required, and the bite was subtle in the 49 deg water.
When we filleted the three smaller fish we found crawfish in all three. Seems to be the forage of choice. The bite turned off about 2 pm, the wind picked up and we called it a day at 3:30 pm.
Very nice concrete boat ramp. Water was crystal clear with vis at 10ft+, some grasses in patches.
