Fellow member, Jeff B and I fished La Roca Range on Sunday, Jan 13th. Beautiful Property! From the gate to the lake, we ran across a 12 point white tail buck, a male black antelope with 4 females, and several wild turkey. The day was cold with temps mid 30s in the morning and warming to mid 40s. Water temp was 48-52. Wind was 10-15 mph. The lake has heavy timber, especially the edges and lots of structure. We threw just about every soft plastic and hard lure suitable for the timber environment. Finally had repeated success using rattle traps (replicating the shad in the lake) throwing in the alleys between timber and to the shore or rocks. Even at the shore line it was 8-13 feet, fish were at 5-8 ft. We only caught 12, culled 5 under 16". But not bad for the conditions. We will be back, for sure in the spring.
