Pete Lane
Fry
At the last minute decided to fish Monday afternoon, and headed to Black Hat. Beautiful day, air temp up to 80, slight SW breeze picked up to ~15 mph through the afternoon, no issues getting down to the lake after all the rain. The landowner here has clearly invested a lot in the fishery / ranch over the past few months - new gate / fence at the entrance and then lots of work on the aeration system, the two outlets that were close to the dock have been relocated / added to now be 4 across the middle of the lake - that must have been a lot of effort (can still see the barge he must have used by the dock); and that's a big commitment to the fishery, thanks! Unfortunately fishing was tough on Monday - combination of rain and the large herd of cattle by the lake left visibility down to 18" in the shallow end, a little better in the deeper water by the dam. Lake is over full pool, the markers at the brush piles were all under water. Tried everything I could think of…. senkos, worms pulled through the brush, crank baits, chatter bait over the weeds, about everything else in the tackle box…. caught one at about a pound on a gold rattle trap. Have done well here in the middle of winter and then the height of summer, so was just one of those days….. Was still a great day to be outside on the kayak. Will be back
