Made the drive from Houston to Henderson on Sunday afternoon (the day before Memorial Day) only to get hammered by a huge rain storm and a weather system that would more than likely eliminate the chances of our planned fish outing at Dogwood Estates - East Lake on Memorial Day Monday. Forecast not good at all - my brother and I were just not giving in on Mother Nature dealing us this bad hand. We have heard about what an outstanding location and enjoyable lake this is through the many members postings. We just kept looking at our cell phone weather apps in anticipation that the weather man, once again, was going to get it wrong. And man did he. Not a drop of rain on Monday! Thank you Mrs. M. Nature! We quickly found out that the fish at Dogwood like it one way and one way only! Soft plastic and vey slow! I mean Slooooooooooooooooow! It so hard for us to fish that slow but these fish are so finicky and don't like to be rushed for sure. We caught 25 in all. See my new personal best (photo below) which weighed in at 9 pounds. Stretched that Mono and 5 foot 20 pound FC leader (Alberto Connection Knot) with that big pumpkin green senko soft plastic bait.
Oh, by the way, a big thank you goes out to my big brother for teaching a little brother how to fish and telling me all his cool tips & secrets that I now have to tell someone else so they can pass all this valuable knowledge on down to their little brother. If I keep it to myself, I will then break the chain and someone will miss out on some missed opportunities and great memories.
I had a 7 pound (approx. guess) spit the hook doing his/her happy dance. Met Rocky the owner, super, super nice guy! If you are a member and you have not fished this premier property yet, then why not? Shame on you! You need to get this booked and go enjoy this this magnificent property. This is a ladies story book, fairy tale, castle - sitting on a mega bass - outdoor man cave - never go inside - set up. Does that makes any sense?
Thanks to all of those that have given their lives for this country, your sacrifice will never be taken lightly or forgotten. A great big thanks to those that have served and are serving our country in the military. Our freedom is everything. Let me say that again. Our FREEDOM is EVERYTHING! Thanks to all that serve and protect…...........YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE! Too many to mention. Let me say that again. THANKS TO ALL THAT SERVE AND PROTECT! WE KNOW WHO YOU ARE!
Yep, that's the Bucket Mouth Smile
