Got to Acker around 6:30 a.m. and was on the water shortly after. It was a little cooler than Saturday but still plenty hot, with a bit more wind throughout the day.

The morning started strong. We picked up several fish in the 3-pound range and one around 4 pounds pretty early, then by about 10:00 the bite slowed into more of a grind. From there we were picking up a fish or two every 30 minutes or so until we pulled off the water around 2:00.

The Texas-rigged 10-inch Power Worm continued to produce in several colors, including black and blue, tequila sunrise, and even pumpkin/chartreuse. We also had success on a Coike-style bait and caught a few fish scoping with a minnow. There were a handful of frog blowups, but the topwater bite was pretty slow overall.

We finished with somewhere around 35 to 40 largemouth. Most were smaller fish, although not nearly as many were under the 14-inch mark as the day went on. We removed 8 fish at or below 14 inches. We also had one good fish break us off deep in the timber, and of course the one that gets away always seems like the biggest one of the day.

The grass continues to get thicker and thicker, making some areas of the lake much harder to fish. We also haven’t had much rain, and the lake looks to be down close to 3 feet based on how much of the spillway is now exposed. The ramp is still very manageable, but the lower water is becoming noticeable.

Even with the bite slowing considerably after midmorning, 35 to 40 bass with several quality fish is still a very solid day. Acker continues to spoil you a little because what feels like a slow day here would be an excellent day on most lakes.
