This was my first trip with private water fishing, and I was really hesitant. Don't get me wrong— This is a 20 acre like it wasn't fishing in a barrel. I tried my low hanging fruit lures like crank baits And top waters at 6 AM without so much as a strike. Started off discouraged, but ended of the day with Multiple 3 to 4 pounders, one 6.5 pounder, and only 3 culls. We left around 11 AM so for five hours, this was probably the most productive fishing session of my life. And this Lake a 16 inch bass is about 2 pounds so that's a pretty hefty cull size.
After about half an hour, I took a look around. There are some pretty obvious features that will hold bass such as the partially submerged trees, The shade side of the reed patches etc.
Do not let wind discourage you from fishing here— The wind made the fish pretty predictable, I never left the bottom third of the lake.
Two tips I would definitely give or try to bring some sort of chart plotter or depth finder— You could be 2 feet of water move 5 feet to your right and be 7 feet of water.
The second Tip is done be afraid to throw lures literally right against the edges of the pond— My friend who I went with, did that with frogs and I couldn't believe how shallow the bass were even with the sun shining directly beating down on the lake.
I did use my live scope and I have some data in terms of a contour map and where bass Were producing for me this day.
if anyone wants to fish together, feel free to contact me as I kind of wanna go back pretty soon to map out the entire lake I wasn't able to find the natural spring and I'm sure that's a big hotspot for some big bass.
I recorded the trip and once I get permission from the owners, hopefully I can post it because this lake To say the least has a very healthy population of Bass, It's possible I came on a day that they were extra hungry and aggressive, but every single bass we reeled in would have been considered a ‘great fish’ At our regular fishing spot so this is definitely not a place to sleep on, But make sure to go in with a game plan too and an assortment of lures to cover the entire water column.
