Took my girl out to Malouf – she hasn’t been fishing since 2021. You wouldn’t know it was 5 years between outings for her.

Malouf is a few feet low on water, making the launch area sketchy as the bank drops off and then there is the concrete boat ramp. The vegetation is in full growth, and the water clarity is excellent. 

I usually find topwater action at Malouf, but this year I’ve had no takers. Even the weightless fluke fished fast along the surface only got bites when I let it sink.

No worries, the ned rig bite was strong, as well as the underspin with a small white swimbait. 

I landed 28 primarily on a ned rig, and she landed 27 primarily on the underspin.

We both ended the day with our biggest bass, located near a tree close to the dam. We both broke off on fish around this tree earlier in the day, and I wanted to give it another shot before noon took us off the water. Paid off and learned a thing about Malouf. I managed to lift a 5lb 5oz healthy looking bass out of the depths and get it into the net, and a few minutes later, she hooked up with a 3lb 14oz bass in the same area and after a nice fight I was able to get it into the net and on the scales.
