Wife and I fished Red Hollow in Whitt on Wednesday morning. We knew that we were heading out there after a heavy rain and right before a Norther blew in about 12:30 PM. The morning was actually nice with a very manageable S/SW breeze moving around to a westerly breeze and then a full blown gale out of the north a little after noon. So, we had about 4 hours of fishing – it didn’t help that I TOTALLY forgot a battery. So, we had zero power. We paddled around and anchored a bit in the main body of the lake and then bank fished for a while until it was just blowing too hard. We still managed to land 17 – including one harvester with all the rest being good solid fish from 2.25 to 4.6 LBS (two of them at 4.6). Most effective lures were: Spinnerbait and Underspin. The majority of the bites were near the shore and some of them were just vicious side swipes followed by a good lateral, drag pulling run. The lake is gaining level and is maybe only a foot and half from full pool now. The viz, considering the recent rain, ranged from 12IN to 2FT depending on the area of the lake. There is a mean degree of bushy pondweed growing that made most presentations very difficult. Pretty much had to maintiain your bait high in the water column. Good day, solid fish, glad we squeezed it in at this super lake.

TIP: the property has an awesome powered gate; enter the numbers deliberately. I punched them in quickly and it didn’t like that – once I entered them slowly, it worked like a charm.

Y’all did a great job of salvaging the trip! Having to use paddles while bass fishing is not easy. I am glad y’all caught fish during your trip. I really appreciate you sharing that gate tip also.

Thank you for the report and photos!
